Why You See So Many Pictures of a Prism

Stephen Strong, M.D. · September 2026

You may have seen a few allusions to prisms, and how white light scatters into different colors or components, interspersed throughout my website.

If it wasn't obvious enough, this is how I like to approach complicated medical scenarios or symptoms.

It also doubles as representation: LGBT (in this case the G), which is an added bonus!

First of all — side note. Creating this website has been so fun for me. The process has taken months, and I sort of started from values, mission statement, strengths / gifts, what I enjoy. Then I tried to put all of that into a plan. Edited it about 500 times. Then vibe coded it. Then edited the website about 500 times.

Prisms are the perfect analogy to complicated medical symptoms or scenarios.

Like fatigue, pain, mood — our experience of our physical bodies. That experience is basically a collection of so many components, factors, wavelengths so to speak; and a prism does a really good job at separating the "white" light or "symptom collection" into each of the components.

When I take this approach — and really try to isolate each possible contributing cause — it makes it much easier to make a practical road map / plan to try to fix a given problem.

The solution starts to materialize slowly at first — and then all of a sudden we're really making progress.

Hope you found that interesting.

Stephen
